Any perception can connect us to reality, properly and fully. What we see doesn't have to be pretty, particularly; we can appreciate anything that exists. There is some principle of magic in everything, some living quality. Something living, something real, is taking place in everything. –Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
I am a paradox: a science writer AND tarot reader! Here’s how it came about. My interest in meditation and energy work began when I started studying Seido karate and kajukenbo at Thousand Waves in Chicago in 1995. I became a Buddhist (Tibetan Kagyu lineage) in the year 2001 (and eventually took a bodhisattva vow in 2014 in Milwaukee). Moving to Wisconsin, I pursued my interest in other forms of moving meditation: beginning to study another martial art (aikido) and yoga. Partially through the encouragement of my Milwaukee yoga teacher (and full-time tarot reader), Theresa Reed, I became first interested in and then obsessed by tarot. At the same time, I was studying reiki, at first with Cynthia Solliday at Mind-Body Soulutions in Butler, and later with Diane Bloom at Free Spirit Crystals. Gradually I realized that tarot reading brings together my academic background in philosophy, religion, writing, and literature, with my interest in meditation and energy work: making it the perfect fit for me. I started doing readings for other people in 2010, and began my tarot business “officially” in May 2012.
