Have the Strength to Tell the Truth

There are many times when we may be tempted to lie. We might not think that the people around us have the strength, or the compassion, to handle the truth, if the truth is something not so great. Today’s cards, from Colette Baron-Reid’s Wisdom of the House of Night deck are advising those of us who prefer to, shall we say, put a spin on the facts, to instead strongly reconsider the value of telling the simple unvarnished truth.

It takes strength and courage to tell the truth if you think that the truth may not be welcomed.

But a little lie, an illusion, is not better. First, weaving illusions does not give us practice being brave in life, does it? It gives us practice being cowards, though. It gives us practice being afraid to face the consequences. And the things we practice for become the things that we weave into our own paths in the future. That’s karma.

Second, deception carries its own bad karma based on the effects that our deceit has on others. It is a destroyer of trust, and it’s a destroyer of our own faith in our security in the world, which is sad because we need more trust and faith in the world. When trust is destroyed, when betrayals take place, our vibrations drop into a very very depressed state. Honesty and courage have a higher vibration even when the truth is something that might not be pleasant. For better karma, it really is better to take the path of the higher vibration.

Practice being brave and true, and your path will take you further along in that direction. Don’t step off that path and tell a lie just because you are afraid of the consequences. To paraphrase Admiral Farragut, damn the torpedoes — and f— the consequences. You will feel better and happier vibrating at a higher level from telling the truth. Telling a lie will make you absolutely miserable, now, and in the future.
